- Benjamin Graham lectured at Columbia University from 1928 to 1957, among his The students were also famous names: Warren Buffett, William J. Ruane, Irving Kahn, and Charles Brandes. Graham argued that a certain share should only be bought under its fundamental value. To determine this value, Graham used various indicators such as price/earning (P/E), price/book value (P/B), dividend rate, profit margin, growth potential, the popularity of the stock and others.
- In its models of estimating intrinsic value, Graham also uses subjective factors, which include the sustainability of the company's business model, the quality of management, and competitive advantages of the company.
- Value investing has not been only promoted by Warren Buffett. There are other famous names: John Templeton, Philip Fisher and Peter Lynch. Fisher's approach to analyzing growth stocks is particularly well known. He described it in his book Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits. In it, he highlights the shares of companies that show superiority in product quality, branding and are especially distinguished by exceptional management. He says it makes sense to pay a little more for such shares, as they can grow tenfold or more in a few years. Such an example in recent years are the shares of Nvidia.
